FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How does Matey calculate margin on a plumbing job?
When you mark a job complete, Matey asks for actual hours and parts cost. Labour is hours times your hourly rate. Total cost is labour plus parts. Margin is the quoted amount minus total cost, shown as a percentage and as profit per hour. Above 20% margin is profitable, 0 to 20% is breakeven, below zero is a loss.
What does the benchmark tell a plumber?
Matey shows your profit per hour next to the industry range for plumbers, roughly $70 to $90 an hour, and what the gap is worth over a year. Benchmarks are anonymised and aggregated: no one sees your numbers.
Can I invoice for parts and labour separately?
Yes. Separate line items for materials and labour, plus a call-out fee if you charge one. The breakdown reduces disputes and feeds straight into your margin verdict.
What happens when a client is 14 days late?
The invoice has been at the top of your screen since day 7 with a friendly reminder drafted. At day 14 Matey drafts a firmer one and your Monday brief names the client and the amount. One tap sends it.
