In Claude, open Customize → Connectors.

Click + Add, then Add custom connector.

Name it Matey, paste the server URL and click Continue.

Keep the sign-in settings Claude detects and click Add. Sign in to Matey and allow access.

In a chat, open + → Connectors, switch Matey on and ask: “Who owes me money?”
Plans · Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Free plans can add one custom connector.
On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds Matey first under Organization settings → Connectors. Everyone else then finds it under Customize → Connectors and clicks Connect.

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode.

Name it Matey, paste the server URL and set authentication to OAuth.

In a new chat, add Matey from the + menu and ask away.
Plans · Paid plans with developer mode. On Business, Enterprise and Edu, a workspace admin may need to turn it on.
OpenAI moves these menus around. If a step doesn't match, look for Apps or Connectors in Settings, or search ChatGPT's help for “developer mode”.

Your AI app can read your Matey account and prepare work, but nothing reaches a customer until you tap Confirm in Matey. Expenses and time entries are the one exception: say yes in the chat and they're logged, because they never leave your books.

You sign in on Matey's own page. Your AI app gets a token for your account only, never your password.

Claude and ChatGPT let you turn individual tools off, so you can keep a chat to read-only.
Disconnect anytime
Remove the connector in your AI app. Drafts it made stay in Matey until you act on them, then expire after 24 hours.
Works with other MCP apps too.
Matey speaks the open protocol over Streamable HTTP with OAuth, so any app that supports remote MCP servers can use the same URL.

What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard, created by Anthropic, that lets AI apps connect to tools and data. Claude, ChatGPT and a growing list of other apps support it, which is how Matey plugs into all of them with one address.
Do I need a Matey account?
Yes. The connector signs in to your Matey account so your assistant can see your jobs, quotes, invoices and clients. New to Matey? The 14-day free trial needs no credit card.
Which Claude and ChatGPT plans work?
Claude supports custom connectors on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, with Free limited to one. ChatGPT supports them through developer mode on paid plans, and on Business, Enterprise and Edu an admin may need to enable it. Both companies change this from time to time, so check their help pages if something looks different.
Can the AI send an invoice without me?
No. Invoices, quotes and payment reminders are only ever drafts. Each one comes back with a link, and it goes to your customer only after you tap Confirm in Matey. The AI can't edit, delete or mark invoices paid either.
What about expenses and time?
Those never reach a customer, so they're the one exception. Your assistant drafts the entry, reads it back, and logs it once you say yes in the chat. You can also confirm them in Matey.
What can my assistant see?
Your own Matey account and nothing else: invoices, quotes, clients, jobs and expenses, only when it calls a Matey tool to answer you. It can't see bank details or anyone else's account.
How do I disconnect?
Remove the Matey connector in your AI app. Any drafts it made stay in Matey until you confirm or dismiss them, and expire after 24 hours.
